Now that the calendar has turned over and given so many people the sense of a new start, I hope that this will be a new era for Haiti, too, one of prosperity and harmony.

I believe the Internet will be important in fulfilling my wish; it has already given Haitians a voice in the world on a scale that was unimaginable even a few years ago. With Web sites like this one helping to spread the word about Haiti's great contributions to history, culture, and humanity, and about injustices against it, we are closer than ever to seeing a world that gives Haiti the respect and cooperation it deserves.
