Diony Paillant - 15 Feb 2003:
My significant other, Haiti
When I was growing up, my mom and dad used to talk to me on a regular basis about this "used-to-be" beautiful land called Haiti, Quisqueya ou Boyo, where I first opened my eyes and breathed the first air in. My parents taught me about my country's history. Once the land was so "Belle" and pigmented with gold, silver and bronze that the rest of the world called it "the pearl of the Islands". But after being devoured by the foreign hungry beavers and betrayed by our own "ti sousou, souf nan tiou" governments, our land is now known as the poorest country in the Western hemisphere and the top four poorest countries in the whole World. Thanks to you "Blancs", thanks to you "Haitian govenments".
After living for a few years in the U.S., I happen to realize that Haitians (including me during the 21 years I had lived in Haiti) are not living but surviving. We were never created or evolved (depending on your beliefs) to be suffering that much, but "foli pouvwa ak egoisme" are two of the main reasons we are where we are now.
As the year 2004 is approaching, representing our 200th year of Independence, we pray God is bringing Haiti together as a tight family in an inseparable bond that will last till the end. We can't count on Foreigners to make us a progressive nation, au contraire they will stomp us down the ditch both because we are black and a poor nation. This is our decision, people, to save Haiti from all evil.
May this coming year be a year of blessings to all Haitians and a year of remembrance of our heroes who died to give us this land. May GOD be our first priority and HIS blessings pour upon us all.
I love you Haiti, I love you my people.
